Sensei Toby Stone

Sensei Stone - Toby Stone is an Engineer, who also has a passion for Martial Arts. He started Karate in 1999 as an adult and has been the head instructor in the Hamilton club since 2008.
Sensei Stone is actively involved in the club, teaching classes as well as entering the national tournaments. He has an excellent track record at tournaments and he has won almost every event including kata and free sparring. His club is known amongst the other competitors as being excellent and the club to beat. Since taking over the leadership at the Hamilton club, Sensei has trained young kids through to adults reaching black belt rank.By keeping active in his karate, Sensei sets high standards not only for himself but also for his students. He is currently ranked black belt second dan and is continuing to develop his skills towards third dan.
SENSEI Peter Nolan
Rank: 2nd Dan
Sensei Nolan - Peter Nolan is one of the original students of the Hamilton Toyakwai Karate club. He started in1995 and achieved his second Dan in 2001.
In 2005 Sensei Nolan moved to Australia then to Ireland in 2006. In Ireland he took up rock climbing but never lost his passion for Karate. While in Dublin he trained with the University college of Dublin Karate club. After returning home to New Zealand at the end of 2011 Sensei Nolan started bachelor of sport science and exercise and is incorporating his new knowledge into classes. He has slotted in with the instructors of the club bringing a well of knowledge and becoming the Kids instructor."I believe karate is to develop human character rather than merely strengthen human beings against physical enemies. You are never to old or to young to try something new, if I can return to study with the amount of hair I have anyone can try anything."
Senpai Kenneth Gibson
Rank: 2nd Dan Black Belt
Senpai Gibson - Kenneth Gibson is an 3rd year Computer Science student at Waikato University, who started training with Toyakwai Karate in Auckland at the age of 6. He obtained his 1st Dan black belt when he was 10 years old in 2000 and has been training at the Hamilton club since 2009 where he is now a 2nd Dan. Senpai Gibson enjoys teaching both the adults and the children at the Hamilton club as well as participating in the Auckland national tournaments each year.
"I'm passionate about every aspect of Karate and I strive to perform my best in every task I take on. I enjoy perfecting the Kata, training hard to beat my opponents in sparring, and mastering practical self defence techniques. For me, Karate provides a good way of training physically and mentally, becoming more self confident and self disciplined. I enjoy teaching all types of students and motivating them to do their best.Kenneth is currently ranked black belt second dan and is continuing to develop his skills towards third dan.
Senpai Matt Hishon
Rank: 1st Dan Black Belt
Matt Hishon is a Graphic Designer who started training with the Hamilton Toyakwai Karate club as an adult in 2007.
Matt has a good track record at the national tournaments having won the 1st-3rd Kyu division in free sparring two years in a row. After missing the 2010 event due to injury and having recently graded for black belt he is looking forward to his first national tournament in that division.
"I enjoy seeing people challenge themselves both physically and mentally, the style and essence of Jushin-Ryu fits that bill well. Taken purely as a conditioning tool the curriculum incorporates strength, stamina, speed and flexibility therefore has great crossover into many other physical applications. It is also a very efficient martial art, offering solutions to many forms of attack. When viewed as a whole the confidence, respect and discipline it instills in each student is something that is applicable to all areas of life".Matt is currently ranked Black belt First Dan and is continuing to develop his skills towards Second Dan.
Senpai Joseph Pooley
Rank: 2nd Dan Black Belt
Senpai Pooley- Joseph Pooley is a Mechanic by trade & has a strong passion for Martial Arts. He started training with the Hamilton Toyakwai Karate club in early 2007 at the age of 21, and has been an assistant instructor (Senpai) in the Hamilton club since 2009.
Senpai Pooley is actively involved in the club, teaching classes as well as entering the national tournaments. He has a consistent track record at tournaments with most events scoring in the top three placing's, including Kata and Free Sparring events. Joseph holds the title of 2010 Black belt division Free Sparring champion.
He is proud to belong to a club who always train to uphold the highest level of standards & continues to push for self improvement through the way of Martial Arts.

Senpai has trained young children though to adult students reaching black belt status.Senpai Pooley is currently ranked Black belt 2nd Dan (Nidan) and is continuing to develop his skills towards 3rd Dan (Sandan).
